Battle of the Bands

The creatures featured above are known as Notes. The Notes within the upper triangle are (from left to right) Jackie, Ben, DJ, and Ron

The two below are (also from left to right) Boggle and Donny

The whole lot of these guys live in a world called "Realm"

Realm is made up of creatures such as Notes, as well as larger ones called Chords, that all live in musical factions. The smaller creatures such as Notes are only capable of producing one or two instrumental sounds, but have the ability to travel in unique ways like flight or like Jackie's strange way of using the colored panels on his head like a wheel and his eye as an axle to drive about. Large creatures like Chords are capable of playing most any instrument, but they choose one of each type and then can only play those sounds. They also can't move in any fanceh panceh way- they can only walk or use vehicles.

What you see the Notes above doing is they're having a "Band Battle"

When Notes group up with one another to compensate for their individual shortcomings, they form little packs called "bands", basically forming a mutual brotherhood with one another, much like a family but without trivial things such as marriage and genetics.

A "Band Battle" between "Bands" is generally just a common form of entertainment, however, it can become a right of passage in a sense if it is more than one Note competing for a place to group with a Chord and form a "Duet"

Sometimes when a Chord chooses to have two instruments within the same instrument group over choosing two different types, they will then try to pair up with a Note to hold the place of the one instrument it may be missing. As such, if more than one Note wants to pair up with that Chord, then they'll hold a "Band Battle" and the Chord will choose whom the winner is. This is a very rare occurrence though, as generally 87% of Chords don't choose to have 2 instruments in the same faction.

In Realm no two creatures are the same- literally. Even if two creatures create a new one, it'll still be completely different. This makes for a slight utopian society in some aspects, because it's impossible to mistake one for another. This is because in these creatures there isn't such a thing as "genes" because they don't "birth"- they "create"

When two creatures of opposing genders are in love, they make the choice of playing a "love song" in which they create a new creature.

When a Chord and a Note form a duet and play a "love song", the Note then transforms into a Chord, thus creating a mutual bond within the duet. This being said, when two Notes play a "love song" to form a bond, they stay Notes.

Very few creatures are born as Chords, generally 62% of the population being made up of Notes.

When Notes are created, there's a very easy way to tell what instruments/sounds they are capable of creating:

Color Wheels = Multi-instruments (Wind, Keys, Synthesizers)
Circles = Drums
Diamonds = Base
Stripes = String
Mouth = Vocals (male or female depending, can also be changed to any pitch or variety depending on the song that's being played)

All creatures in realm make their homesteads on "Stages". Yes by stages I mean like concert stages. Creatures inhabit these stages and create an environment atop of them to accommodate any of their unique needs. Like for example, say that there's a Note that plays percussion instruments using it's cymbal like hands to create rings and swing from them. On their stage they have created glowing pivots, so this creature can then jump and attach to said pivot to create a ring, when it swings full circle before leaping to the next one, he creates the full sound of the instrument he plays.

More over anybody have a name for the new guy that isn't really new since I've drawn him a few times but have never given a name?
More more over anybody remember that one journal I made about the world these guys live in and WHY they're in "bands" to begin with??

Okay so after going on a walk for a good two hours and listening to songs from Animusic- a character started to morph in my head. First it was just this green ball, then a green fairy dancing on the water, then it changed into this color changing plasma creature of sorts that created beams of light that connected from one tip of it's limb to another which it'd stretch longer or shorter to create sounds. Then it went from there to where it started growing arms, then it had two arms that were normal, and 6 made out of this purple jelly, where two sets were holding yellow plasma strings that it'd pluck like a string instrument, and then the other set was playing drums that were also created from this electric plasma of sorts.
His name is now Marick
Because I wanted a character named Marick earlier but could never think of something.
Now let's talk about my other OC's for a minute.
Characters like S.I.D or.... Dr Alabaster Delmoure *shudder*, are going right out the window. Other's like Butters, Mushroom Man, and Evalyn (obviously), are in something completely seperate from this entire idea. The Gyroids are a part of this whole idea, as well as the Misfits.

Alright- now they're sorted out. The thing that the Gyroids, Misfits, and Marick all have in common all live in this same realm that has yet to have a name of any sort so for the time being it shall just be called "Realm"

Small creatures tend to group up with one another and form little packs called "Bands", attracted by one another's unique sounds and form a mutual friendship much like a family.

Large creatures are soloists, and compete with one another to generally try and make the better sounds.

On rare occasions a smaller creature will pair with a larger one, usually to fill the void of an instrument a large creature can't play if they copped out to play something else like two different sounds of one instrument. Say like a flute and a piccolo instead of a flute and a bass. This sort of pair can be called a "Duet"

The Misfits can be an example of a band, Marick is in fact a duet with a violin based small creature and I'll draw them eventually. The Gyroids are one sort of variety within the "Techno" faction.

Also there's a new theory behind these guys now and it has to do with the shapes that are on the smaller ones bodies:
