Night's a Scream - King's Missing Wheel

So like with any HE game, you can't have just one scenario for ANYTHING to be accomplished in the game. As such there's two screens showing two different situations Sam might have to solve.

The basic premise for Night's a Scream following the intro, is that Carrot's returned to the Land of Darkness to help out with catching a monster that he heard recently got loose (which happens to be the one Sam's after). However some of the friends he brought with him got lost along the way and it's Sam's job to rescue them, and help out a few friends of his own that have gotten into some trouble thanks to the mischievous beast roaming around.

The folks Carrot brought with him are Sprinkle and Florette, but in order to find them Sam first needs to help out King and Otto. Otto's used to find Sprinkle and vice versa for King and Florette

So if Sam rescues Otto from his predicament, he'd be able to go find Sprinkle before tending to King and Florette. Though I'm trying to work out some ideas for items that'd be needed to save Florette and Sprinkle, that can only be gotten if both King and Otto are rescued.


Aaaaaaanyways here's the basic summary of King's predicament here copy-pasta'd from my notes :P

The Land of Darkness construction crew was working repairs to the minetracks for the first time in ages. SUPPOSEDLY the monster (according to King's account) removed the construction sign by these tracks (but a worker actually knocked it down while heading out for lunch) which sends King in the wrong direction. When he heads into this area one of his wheels gets caught on the unfinished track and breaks loose, falling down below. The wheel will be in 2 different locations, depending on which track section King is stuck on. He'll either be across a giant gap, hanging off the edge to the right of the screen, or on an isolated piece of track sitting to the top left with a section of the board beneath the tracks snapped off and him slipping through
        The wheel can either fall in the river and end up in the woods amidst a pile of other metal things that a Snapdragon flower it guarding as its treasure near the shore, and Sam'll need to find a way of grabbing it without waking the creature up. (He can craft a potion in the alchemy lab to take with him that'll make him as quiet as a mouse.) Or it will've fallen deep into the mineshaft nearby and onto a small island surrounded by lava. Sam'll need to find a magnet to retrieve it, but also something that can extend his reach. A tech guy in Darkness's basement will have a grapple gun that you can attach the magnet to to launch it out and retrieve it. This gun will also be used to rescue Florette in one of her scenarios, but with another attachment.

I've gotta tell ya trying to mimic the HE art style is no easy feat. It was very fun to work on, outlining everything with a 1px brush like a ballpoint pen, but at the same time I feel like I could've pushed the details in the scene a BIT more had I come up with some other elements. Since the HE games are packed to the brim with detail on every screen xD Hopefully I did it some justice though~ (and if anyone is actually fooled into these being real screenshots then I've done my job x,D)

If I don't get to any other fake screenshots soon- I'm planning at least next to post the entire set of notes I've scrawled down for Night's a Scream. For those folks that are interested in that sort of thing ;)

PS: yeaaaaah King's kinda my favorite character so that's why I started with him first x,D
If I've got the push to start another set then the next ones will be for Otto or Florette, but those'll be more complex since King's the only character where both his scenarios can be seen on the same screen, everyone else I basically gotta do two entire pictures for (and this one took a good bit as it is <0>)

mayyybe I'll just do one screen at a time in future cases :,P
